Dusty was a wild mustang from the wild herd of Alberta, Canada. Greg considered himself to be very fortunate to attract her into his life from the First Nations when she was only 3 years old. Greg tamed and trained her; she proved to be one of those horses that was very faithful, reliable, grounded and powerful on all levels. She was a big part of his Outfitting Business in Alberta where he took various people out on pack trips into the mountains, offered trail riding and therapeutic riding, etc. Due to other work commitments, he reluctantly sold his Business along with a number of his horses. She was one of them much to their dismay. When he saw her a year later, he didn’t even recognize her as pining for him was taking a toll on her body. Needless to say, Dusty went home with Greg and the two of them were together in physical until Dusty decided to leave body on September 29, 2012 at the age of 25 years old.
About 2 weeks before her passing, she told me that she would not be in body much longer. When I went to check on Greg’s herd on the evening of September 26, 2012, she did not come over which was very odd. When I got to her, she was looking miserable as she spewed green slime from her mouth and nose. I asked her if she had been poisoned and she said, “No, there is something in my throat.” I then returned to the barn to get a halter and some homeopathic remedies.
I gave her some remedies and immediately started doing energy work with her. The other horses, except Seven, stood quietly and assisted me. She calmed, so I lead her and had the others follow along to the paddocks near the barn. Just as I was getting them into the paddocks, Greg was pulling in the lane as he was returning from a two week trip in Alberta. We were relieved as he very much needed to be part of the decision making process and her journey.
We worked with her into the night as she had a bolus of food in her throat that would not come up and out or go down. It was so beautiful as Willie came over and laid his head on her neck at one point as I was doing energy work with Dusty. He then tried to get her to stand up and I quietly let him know that it was best for me to work with her while she was laying down. He then proceeded to lay his head back down on her neck. Each horse except for Seven(he was very close to Dusty and knew that her days were numbered, but it seemed to take him a while to accept it) came to check on her and offer assistance. Words cannot express how special this experience was with this wonderful herd that night.
Dusty had improved some, but let us know that she needed Veterinary assistance. Greg took her into the Vet and they worked with her for about three hours by putting a tube down her nostril and into her throat to break up the bolus. It did break up and rinse out, but her stomach was not holding water that was being administered through the tube. They suspected another blockage in the stomach, so Greg left her there for the afternoon for them to offer her mineral oil to hopefully help break up the suspected mass. When Greg returned, it was looking grim as nothing had changed and they felt that she had a tumour. Her stool had mucous and blood in it as well.
Greg called me to see what Dusty wanted to do i.e. go to Prince George to be scoped, be euthanized or come home. She opted to come home much to the dismay of the Vets although they seemed more agreeable when she perked up as she walked towards the trailer. She knew she was going home!!
When Greg arrived home, he was very heightened as he was caught up in fear and panic from the worst case scenarios described by the Vets. He said that he was going to go in and call the Vet to come and euthanize her. I took one look at Dusty and knew that this was not her wish at all, so I said, “Whoa, whoa, whoa!!” She does not look like a horse that wants to be euthanized at this time, so let’s find out what she truly wants.” Greg then went from this very ungrounded, fearful place to being grounded as he walked over towards Dusty who still had a tube in her nostril and down into the stomach. She then let him know that she was fine for now and she walked quickly over to a paddock between the two herds. She proceeded to drink and drink and drink even though most, if not all, the water was coming back out the tube; Greg was still thrilled as she showed no interest in water at the Vet Clinic. She was looking bright and content.
We did energy work with her periodically throughout the evening and she asked for various homeopathics which we obliged of course. The Vet wanted us to take the tube out the next day, but we went along with Dusty’s wishes and left it in. Our amazing horse continued to be relaxed and we lovingly tended to her as she guided us all the way.
She had a poop that was normal and she urinated some. We all got to spend magical moments with her which we all enjoyed. She brought so many smiles to our faces!!
The next day, both Greg and I were directed by her to remove the tube. I pulled a Sacred Path Card(Returning Home), so we were being told that she would miraculously heal without the tube or it was her time to leave body. Both of us were sure that it was the latter. She was very cooperative as Greg emptied and pulled the tube. When she drank some water, it was not coming back up or going down. We could hear it gurgling in the throat area. She started to panic and spasm a bit. Greg quickly turned to me and said, “I think it is time.” I responded, “Yes, it is time.” She was very clear; very much in the driver’s seat. While Greg was in calling the Vet, I gave her some calming remedies and did energy work with her and she settled nicely. In a short time, she was comfortably laying down with just a little gagging once in a while.
Greg and I shared more magical moments with her. I then came into the house to get kleenex and call a Friend who I do energy work with. I looked out my window and noticed that Dusty got up, so the two of them went in with her herd(she was the lead mare). It was so beautiful and heartwarming as she went around to each one to say her good-byes. Needless to say, the kleenex was coming in very handy. When I went back out, Greg and Dusty were out and about as Greg was wondering where Dusty wanted to be buried. He told her to let him know by stopping, so she led him to the picturesque hillside visible from our house.
We continued to work on keeping her comfortable. Greg thought that he had heard the Vet’s pickup coming up our lane. I then sensed an energetic panic on Dusty, so I asked her what that was all about and she proceeded to tell me that she still had some unfinished business while in body. I told her that we could hold the Vet off for a few minutes if need be. It turned out not to be the Vet, so she finished what she needed to do and was very tranquil when he did arrive.
The Vet was awesome with her and us!! He gave her lots of sedation before the lethal injection and he informed us of what could be expected and how we could play a role in making it more peaceful for her by allowing the body to drop with as much ease as possible. She was so ready to go as she just went down easily and her body did some stretching out as the poison hit her heart. Her soul released into that spiritual state rightaway.

Greg and I cried as we sat by Dusty’s body. Uschie, our dog, was there to comfort and her herd, even Seven, was part of the honouring and grieving as they looked on. It was sad and glorious all at the same time. Greg then shared some stories in which we had to laugh as she was quite the character on pack trips. Greg had to go find her and her herd on several occasions as she would decide to go on adventures and take the herd with her. We could sense her embracing all of us as we grieved together.
We could not get anyone to bury her body that day, so we put a tarp over it as we still had some flies around and of course lots of predators/scavengers. I could feel her protecting her own body as she knew it was important to us to bury her wonderful vehicle that she spent all those years in.
When I came into the house, I was feeling rather uneasy. I could not figure it out as she was so clear that it was her time to leave physical. I then called my Friend back and she picked up that Dusty had a gift for me. At that instant, I felt totally calm and my alarm clock on our bedside table started flashing; so remarkably magical!! Greg and I spent the afternoon grieving, checking fencelines and moving our herds to other pastures. I then felt clear enough to access the gift that night. She proceeded to tell me that she is part of The Illuminators, a group that helps bring awareness to the masses on Earth. She told me that she was one of the leaders in the physical realm and now needed to pass the torch to me being that she needed to be in spiritual to continue her mission. So miraculous!! I feel so honoured and blessed to be a part of this group and continuing to assist others to awaken to conscious awareness!!
She told me that she opted for euthanasia, so she would not have to endure much physical trauma and she felt it would be easier for Greg to handle as well. She also let me know that she was able to rise above any discomfort while waiting for the Vet. Nice confirmation for sure!!
She also informed me that she orchestrated her death well as she waited for Greg to come back from Alberta and it was in between my courses as well.
When I asked her about the idea of a tumour, she ’til this day will not refer to it as such. She talks only about energy as one can use it to live, die and do anything possible. She truly comes from that bigger perspective!!
She also had a beautiful, personal message for Greg which he holds dear in his heart.
Furthermore, Greg got a hit that there would be a rock that would be found while digging her grave that would be used as her tombstone.
That night of her passing, Dusty’s herd was whinnying for her on a regular basis. I went out to make sure that they knew she had passed and to remind them that she was still very much around them. It was as though their more horsey side took over. They settled down and we honoured her presence together. They never called out for her again although they do continue to grieve due to their physical loss. They continue to reestablish the pecking order as she was a powerful lead mare.
The next day, our Friend came over to dig the grave. To Greg’s unequivocal amazement, there was only one large rock revealed and it was perfect for her tombstone. As it was about to be placed on the grave, it dropped out of the bucket and landed exactly the way Greg(and no doubt Dusty) wanted it. The gifts from Dusty just keep continuing on and on. What a miraculous being!!
The love of Dusty, which lives deep in our hearts/souls, brings comfort and joy to us while we continue to move through the grieving. Bless you Dusty!! What an incredible being you were in physical and now in the spiritual state!! We love you very, very much!!
