Evacuated For Four Weeks Today

My animal family and I are still displaced (four weeks today :(!!)as my area continues to be on evacuation alert and volatile due to fires in the area and very dry weather.
The good news is that more evacuation orders around Williams Lake have been changed to evacuation alerts. I take this to be a good sign. According to BC Wildfires website, White Lake fire is 40% contained and Wildwood fire is 20% contained. From what I understand the crews have been building fire guards in hopes to contain these fires and let them burn themselves out. Apparently there is still lots of fuel within the guards so they continue to burn. The Hanceville/Riske Creek fire is not contained at all.
I have heard that the smoke is really bad at times in the area. This is another good reason not to go back home yet.
My horses and cats continue to do well here. Nitika is another story as she tore through the screen on our borrowed tent trailer while I was in having breakfast on Sunday morning. Continue Reading →

Wildfire Evacuation Continues…

Well it has been just a little over three weeks since my seven horses, four cats, one dog and I evacuated due to the wildfires near Williams Lake.
My ranch continues to be safe and I have a few people monitoring it. I appreciate all the bubbling being sent its way!! Keep up the great work everyone!!
My seven horses are enjoying going out on pasture for a few hours then lazing around the barnyard. They are so thankful to not be in stalls as they are free spirits that live outside 24/7. My cats continue to do well in the tent trailer even though it was quite hot yesterday. Nitika is doing okay and yet very much looking forward to running free again and going for dips in the pond.
Me…I am hanging in there. I am starting to sleep better and getting into a bit more of a routine. I do find the whole thing quite exhausting, but I have been drawing on my inner strength and feeling somewhat stronger this week. Continue Reading →
